Featuring books that I really want to read but haven't actually made it to my embarrassingly large TBR pile yet.

I really enjoyed the Nightside series but it got a bit tired and predictable after as the series progressed. I loved the twisted pop culture and how unapologetically brutal the characters were, I'm hoping the Eric Carter series will be just as clever and entertaining.
Author: Dead Things (Eric Carter #1)
Release Date: February 2013

I loved this series, why am I so far behind on it?! The Others books definitely leave me stressed out and impatient for the next read, maybe that's why I've been putting it off? But whatever, I've got to get back to this series - it's fantastic.
Author: Anne Bishop
Release Date: March 2015
For the shadows of war are deepening across the Atlantik, and the prejudice of a fanatic faction is threatening to bring the battle right to Meg and Simon’s doorstep…

What have you had your eye on but just haven't picked up yet? I'm trying to catch up on some of the series or authors I really enjoy. Not a lot of library options here, these are all books that I would like to own, so lit looks like I know what I'll be using those birthday gift cards on.

Necromancer is such an ugly word, but it's a title Eric Carter is stuck with.
He sees ghosts, talks to the dead. He’s turned it into a lucrative career putting troublesome spirits to rest, sometimes taking on even more dangerous things. For a fee, of course.
When he left L.A. fifteen years ago he thought he’d never go back. Too many bad memories. Too many people trying to kill him.
But now his sister’s been brutally murdered and Carter wants to find out why.
Was it the gangster looking to settle a score? The ghost of a mage he killed the night he left town? Maybe it’s the patron saint of violent death herself, Santa Muerte, who’s taken an unusually keen interest in him.
Carter’s going to find out who did it and he’s going to make them pay.
As long as they don’t kill him first.Goodreads Summary

The Others freed the cassandra sangue to protect the blood prophets from exploitation, not realizing their actions would have dire consequences. Now the fragile seers are in greater danger than ever before—both from their own weaknesses and from those who seek to control their divinations for wicked purposes. In desperate need of answers, Simon Wolfgard, a shape-shifter leader among the Others, has no choice but to enlist blood prophet Meg Corbyn’s help, regardless of the risks she faces by aiding him.
Meg is still deep in the throes of her addiction to the euphoria she feels when she cuts and speaks prophecy. She knows each slice of her blade tempts death. But Others and humans alike need answers, and her visions may be Simon’s only hope of ending the conflict.

I've been wanting to start The Others series for awhile now. I hear nothing but good things about them.
ReplyDeleteIt's great but there's so much tension - that's why I say it stresses me out. So I put off reading it and when I finally pick it up I'm mad at myself for waiting so long.
DeleteOh I've been thinking of checking out Marjorie Liu and I do love Han Solo haha. I loved The Others series too but am also behind haha. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI'm really interested in seeing what Liu does with Han Solo. He's a family favorite, some I'm excited but nervous.
DeleteI'm like the odd-man-out with Anne Bishop. She seems to be an author that everyone has read and loved. I really need to get on board and grab a copy of her book.
ReplyDeleteWhat I really like about Bishop's books is that you can tell what "the bad guys" are doing. This world, or continent, is kind of innocent in a way, but Europe has been overrun by humans so you see the psychological warfare, the need to conquer because of over population and resources. It's cool but you just want to shake people because they don't get it. The Cassandra power is a bit creepy and rape is alluded to. So careful with this one if that's a no go for you.
